IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?

This course is intended for instructors, guides and trip leaders to develop the skills and certify those who wish to teach Paddle Canada  Introduction Tandem Moving Water courses.

PRE-REQUISITE SKILLS

All Introduction Moving Water Instructor candidates are expected to either have Paddle

Canada Moving Water Intermediate skills course

Paddlers will be evaluated on their demonstration quality of their skill and knowledge

throughout the instructor program through observation and, where appropriate, specific skills testing and homework.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?

YOU SUPPLY:

1. Clothing

a) 2 changes of clothes. This should include 2 light T-shirts.

b) a sweater for cool days and nights. A light jacket that can be worn as a wind breaker.

c)  a hat with a good sun shield and a pair of sunglasses.

d) several pairs of wool socks and a pair or two of light socks.

e) 2 pairs of sneakers - one for wearing while canoeing (they'll get wet) and one for keeping dry to wear in camp. Another option is a pair of wet suit booties.

f) a pair of light gloves for cool, windy weather (optional).

g)  a bathing suit and a pair of shorts for hot weather.

h) knee pads for kneeling in the canoe are a good idea.

2. Sleeping bag. I recommend 1.5 pounds of down or equivalent. An insulite pad or something similar for underneath is good for warmth and comfort. Thermorests and sleeping bags can be rented from Horizons Unlimited.

3. Rain gear. A good quality but lightweight raincoat of some sort is very important.

4. Personal necessities: face cloth, toothbrush and paste, comb, insect  repellent, etc.

5.  Canoe, paddle and lifejacket. These may be rented from Horizons for a special school rate. Let us know well in advance so we can reserve it for you.

6. Tent. Make sure it has a good rain fly. This too may be rented from Horizons.

7. Optional:

a) Camera. Well waterproofed.

b) Fishing tackle and a fishing license.

c)  Pocket knife.

8. Pack. This is to put all this gear into. Horizons rents these as well.
