Coghlan Falls is on the Johnson River at the upstream end of a long lake called Pardoe Lake. The falls are one of those many hidden gems in northern Saskatchewan that very few people know about. Coghlan Falls drops 28 meters over 4 major drops before it enters Pardoe Lake. It’s easy to spend a day hiking around the area trying see all 4 falls and looking to find the best view.

As an added bonus, for those who what the challenge. A day trip from Coghlan Falls further upstream about 8 km takes you to another nameless falls that drop about 10 meters.
.
Pardoe Lake starts near the Johnson River Bridge on Highway 905. This is a beautiful sand shored long narrow lake. There are several decent places to set up a base camp from which the explorations can begin.

From the sand shores of Pardoe Lake the scenery changes dramatically as you approach the end of the lake where the falls are. Suddenly the backbone of the Precambrian Shield shows itself. The river plunges over these granite ridges into the lake. It is an amazing site!

Trip Description

The Coghlan Falls Trip is a lake trip that spends most of it’s time on Pardoe Lake. After a 3 hour drive to the Johnson River, the trip starts on the far north east end of Pardoe Lake. There is a good place to camp fairly near to the start of the trip. Here we will set up our first camp and work on canoeing skills. Our next camp will be set up near to Coghlan Falls. It is from here we will hike, canoe and explore the area. As the photos show, the area around the falls is beautiful, it is a challenge to find the best vantage point to see the various falls as they tumble there way from the nameless lake above down into Pardoe Lake.
After a few days of exploring, we’d travel back to our first camping spot and then the following day back to the road and the long van ride back to Missinipe.
